About Mom Revamped

Mom Revamped is a lifestyle blog written by a mom who is making changes to live a healthier and happier lifestyle.

About Heidi

I’m Heidi, a 30-something mom who lives in Southwestern Ontario.

I worked in childcare for 14 years, initially running a home daycare so I could stay home with my kids when they were young.  When I got tired of the mess in my living room, I went back to school and got a diploma in Early Childhood Education.  After college, I spent 5 years working in a daycare center and took some courses in Autism and Behavioral Sciences too.

I am the creative/crafty type and enjoy making DIY decorations for holidays, scrapbooking and making homemade cards and gifts. I also enjoy traveling, though I find planning the trips to be as much fun as going on them.

My Family

When I started this blog I made the decision to keep my families names out of it for their privacy, which is why I refer to them using the following nicknames.

The Husband and I have been married for 12 years.  He’s the get down on the floor and let the kids climb all over you type of dad, and has always supported me in whatever crazy idea (like completely overhauling our diets and quitting my job to start a blog) I have.

Big Sis is our 12-year old autistic daughter.  While she is verbal, her speech is severely delayed with a lot of echolalia.  Despite all the challenges she faces in her life she is the happiest kid I have ever met and has a laugh that makes everyone smile.

Lil Sis is our 10-year old chatterbox.  She speaks a mile a minute, and while she can be a bit intense at times, she is an incredibly loving and caring child. While she gets her looks from her dad, her creativity, imagination and sarcasm skills are all me.

The Dog is the newest member of our family.  He is a 3-year old golden retriever and is a fully trained autism service dog for Big Sis.  When he’s not on the job, he enjoys cuddling up our laps or chasing his tail.

Why I Started Mom Revamped

In May 2018 the most stressful year of my life came to an end.

I had spent 12 months in a legal battle against my daughter’s school, without a lawyer.  My life had been consumed by reading through case law, writing and filing legal papers, and preparing for a hearing, where I eventually fought my case against a very experienced lawyer.

During that year my mental health deteriorated.  I had severe anxiety and suffered from frequent panic attacks, which led to me taking a year-long leave of absence from my job.  I lived that year in survival mode, fighting to get through each day without breaking down.

When the legal case was finally over, I decided to take some time for me.

I knew that I needed to recover from what I had been through before trying to go back to my normal life and job.  There was only a month left until summer, so it made sense to stay off work until September when the kids went back to school anyways.

Over those 3 months, I had a lot of time to reflect, not just on the past year but on my life in general.

I realized that I didn’t like the life I had been living.

Even before the legal battle, I had always been that stressed-out mom.

I knew that I needed to make some big changes to my life, for both my health and my happiness.

Why a blog?

“We teach best what we most need to learn”

When I started to think about all the changes I wanted to make to my life, my job was one of them.

As much work as it had been doing all the legal research and writing, I had realized that I was actually pretty good at it.

As my research changed from boring legal stuff to learning about living a healthy and happy lifestyle, I realized I could write about everything I was learning to help other moms who were trying to make the same changes.

That was when I had the idea to start a blog and see if I could make it a full-time job.

Mom Revamped Topics

While I initially planned on Mom Revamped being a health and wellness blog, after a few months of blogging I realized that living a happy life was about more than just mental wellness.  Since then I have expanded my topics to include other areas of my life that I have focused on revamping.

Recipes

Most of my recipes are keto, but I occasionally post healthy kid-friendly recipes too, many of which are Paleo or GAPS friendly.

Healthy Life

This section of the blog will have articles about the keto diet, our experience with the GAPS diet, the Paleo diet (which Big Sis is now on) and other information on healthy eating and nutrition, as well as fitness topics.

Natural Life

This section will include information on living a non-toxic life, including natural body care products, natural cleaning products, natural remedies and how I use essential oils.

Happy Life

Here you will find a variety of topics that have led to me living a happier life, like working at home, organizing my life, personal growth, and mental wellness.

Mom Life

What kind of mom blog would this be without a section on parenting. You’ll also find some stuff on holidays (because I’m a pretty festive person), ideas for fun things to do with kids, and some tips on keeping a house organized.

Married Life

Part of revamping my life including revamping my marriage. This is where I talk about how The Husband and I have dealt with some marriage problems (and our healing separation), write some advice some husbands need to hear, and share some DIY romance ideas.

Fun Life

Last but not least is just the fun stuff, because living a happy life means spending more time having fun.  In this section you will find articles about traveling, mom crafts and DIYs, shopping and product recommendations and whatever else I find that brings joy to my life.
