Keto Reset Review

What is the Keto Reset Diet?

The Keto Reset Diet is a diet plan that helps you transition to the keto diet without having to struggle and deprive yourself.

Instead of making the switch from a typical high-carb diet to one with drastically reduced carbs, The Keto Reset Diet book provides you with a 21-day plan to reset your metabolism to prepare you to go keto easily and with minimal side effects.

What is the Keto Reset Diet plan?

Could this make going keto easier?

Would this work for someone who is restarting keto after a break?

Read my Keto Reset Diet review to find out.

When I decided to go back to keto after quitting for 7 months, I realized that I needed to take a new approach to it this time.

My first attempt to make going back on keto easier was to try out Pruvit (read my review).  While this did help me get into ketosis with minimal suffering, I didn’t stick with it after my two-week trial period (though I do use this brand occasionally now).

I decided that I needed a better understanding of the keto diet so I could come up with a keto plan that would be easier to stick to.

I was familiar with Mark Sisson, from Mark’s Daily Apple and from the Primal Blueprint book, so when I noticed that he had a book about keto I knew it would have all the information I needed.

Now that I have made it through the 21-day metabolism reset period and transitioned back to the keto diet, I am ready to share my Keto Reset Diet review.

Brad Kearns and Mark Sisson, Keto Reset Diet Authors

The Keto Reset Diet is written by Mark Sisson with Brad Kearns.

This isn’t the first book that Sisson and Kearns have written together.  In 2016 they co-authored the book Primal Endurance.

They also just released a new book together, Keto for Life.

Both authors have written books and recipe books on their own or with other authors as well.

Kearns books include Triathlon Training for Everybody, Keto Cooking for Cool Dudes and Carnivore Cooking for Cool Dudes.

And, of course, Sisson has his well-known book The Primal Blueprint, plus recipes books like The Primal Blueprint Cookbook and Primal Blueprint Quick and Easy Meals.

If you’re wondering if the Primal Blue Print is a ketogenic diet, it’s not.

The primal diet is an adapted version of the Paleo diet (but allows dairy).  While it is much lower carb than the standard American diet, since it doesn’t allow grains or sugar, it doesn’t require you to count or restrict your carbs.

The Primal Blueprint is more than just a diet plan though.

Along with helping you to live a healthier life by making better food choices, it also focuses on making other healthy lifestyle changes.

This is what made The Keto Reset Diet book so appealing to me.  I knew that Sisson doesn’t just focus on diet, but on healthy lifestyle changes as well.

The Keto Reset Diet Summary

The Keto Reset Diet book is broken into 3 parts.

How Do You Reset Your Body on Keto?

Part one is all about the science.

Before you go keto you’ll learn what the difference is between being in ketosis and being keto and fat-adapted, how ketones are produced and used by the body, and all the benefits beyond weight loss of the keto diet. You’ll also learn about how the standard carb-dependent diet leads to excess fat storage and more health problems.

While this section provides a lot of scientific information, it’s all presented in an easy to follow way to explain why keto works.

Of course, the focus isn’t just on diet either.

It also covers other modern issues that cause us harm, like our overly stressful lives, lack of adequate sleep and lack of (or excessive) exercise.

Preparing for Keto

Part two is about the 21-day metabolism reset plan.

Instead of just jumping right into the keto diet, The Keto Reset Diet starts you off with a 3-week transition period.

During this phase, you will focus on eliminating a lot of high-carb foods and replacing them with healthy nutrient-dense food instead.  While you won’t be counting your carbs yet, you will be naturally lowering your carbs by cutting out grains and sugar.

The book provides all the information you need to know what foods you should avoid and what to replace them with. To make it easy, it even includes a 3-week meal plan using the recipes in chapter 12.

In addition to making changes to your diet, the plan also includes other healthy lifestyle changes.  It provides information and tips on stress management, healthy sleep habits and, of course, exercise.

Keto Reset Diet Plan

Part three is about going keto.

To make sure that your fully ready to take this step there is an exam to test how well you have done with implementing all of the strategies from part 2.

If you don’t pass, it’s suggested that you stick with the metabolism reset phase for a bit longer to make sure your transition to the keto diet goes smoothly.

This section of the book gives you all the information you need about keto to get started and provides information on things like fasting and how to use exogenous ketones to help as well.

Like the metabolism reset phase, this section includes a 3-week keto reset meal plan.  While it does provide lists of keto foods (with the carb counts), you will have to come up with your own Keto Reset Diet shopping list (or you can use these All Out Of Keto checklists).

Once you have become fully keto and fat-adapted, it also offers more advanced strategies you can use to accelerate your progress.

Before moving on to the 100+ recipes in chapter 12, the book also provides some eating strategies you can follow after keto if you chose not to stick with full keto long-term.  If you worry about gaining weight back after keto, these strategies can help you to keep it off.

My Keto Reset Diet Review

The Keto Reset Diet Book Review

The Keto Reset Diet Book Review

Before I get into the details about my experience on the keto reset diet, I want to focus just on the book itself.

The first time I started the keto diet I relied on information I found online.  I had a basic understanding of the keto diet and thought that was good enough.

I was wrong.

Had I read this book in the first place, maybe I wouldn’t have ended up going off keto, and then going back to keto 7 months later.

After reading The Keto Reset Diet, I now have a much better understanding of the keto diet and have figured out why my weight loss stalled the first time I was on keto.

I liked that the book provided information about a lot of other common things we see in the keto world, like intermittent fasting and what to use exogenous ketones for.

While some of the lifestyle changes that are laid out in The Keto Reset Diet plan may not be necessary for the keto diet, they are generally things that are ideal for any healthy lifestyle, such as getting adequate sleep.

At times The Keto Reset Diet does go into depth on some areas that don’t apply to everyone (like athletic endurance), but those parts are easy to skim through and still have some helpful information.

Some people may find that all the scientific information laid out in the book is more than they need to know, but I’m the type that enjoys reading this stuff and found that there were a lot of really helpful tips throughout the book.

My Keto Reset Review

I’m sure some readers aren’t too happy when they realize the 21-day keto reset plan us actually a 21-day metabolism reset plan to follow before you go on the keto diet.

But honestly, this transition period does make going keto so much easier.

While I did have some sugar cravings for the first week, they were easy to deal with since I wasn’t limiting my carbs yet and could still eat fruit.  I found that eating a few dates really helped with the sweet cravings too.

I had no problems following the 21-day metabolism reset phase, and did it without any struggling or feeling deprived. Over the 3-week period, my cravings decreased and I started naturally eating fewer carbs.

By day 22 I passed the exam and was ready to move onto the keto phase.

The keto diet plan laid out in the book is different than what you have probably read online about getting into ketosis.

Instead of counting net carbs and staying below 20-30 grams, you count total carbs and stay below 50.  You also don’t have to include any non-starchy vegetables in that 50 grams.

While this does make the diet easier to follow for someone who is new to keto and is great for anyone wanting to follow a clean keto diet, after 3 weeks I realized that it just wasn’t the right keto plan for me.

While I do love that it puts more emphasis on eating vegetables, it makes it hard to enjoy some of the store-bought keto treats (which tend to be high in fiber and use erythritol as a sweetener) that are available now.

By counting net carbs instead of total carbs, I can subtract the fiber and erythritol which can lower the carbs by 10 grams or more in some products.

For me, this works better as it allows me to still have an occasional treat that I don’t have to make myself.

I also didn’t end up following through on all the other lifestyle changes that were part of the Keto Reset Diet plan. While I did still make some positive changes, I did not follow all the exercise recommendations or all the sleep habit changes.

The Keto Reset Diet Cookbook

If you’re really not interested in reading all the science and other information about the keto diet and just want a simple version of the plan, The Keto Reset Diet Cookbook may be a better option for you.

The cookbook is laid out in two parts.

Part one had 3 short chapters.

It starts with some quick keto 101 and offers a brief summary of most of what’s in The Keto Reset Diet book. The next chapter gives you an overview of the 21-day metabolism reset, including the lifestyle changes that are laid out in the full book.  Chapter 3 gives you some quick dos and don’ts of keto.

Then, of course, part 2 of the book is the 150 Keto Reset Diet Recipes.

This really is an extremely watered-down version of the full book and doesn’t contain a complete list of approved foods or a lot of other helpful information.  While it may be enough to get you started, the full Keto Reset Diet book has a lot more to offer.

If you want even more recipes, there is also a Keto Reset Instant Pot Cookbook.

Where to Get the Keto Reset Diet Book

You can get a copy of The Keto Reset Diet book on Amazon or it is available in most book stores.

You can also get the Keto Reset Diet kindle edition or try out audible and get The Keto Reset Diet audiobook.

Keto Reset Mastery Course

If you’re looking for more than just a book to help you transition to the keto diet, then the Keto Reset Mastery Course might be a better fit for you.

It includes over 100 instructional videos, two full-length primal cookbooks, recipe guides and an eating plan, individual support and more.

While I didn’t follow everything that was laid out in The Keto Reset Diet plan, I do still consider it a valuable tool in helping me to come up with my own keto plan.  The book gave me a lot of information about the keto diet and I learned a lot that will continue to help me.

I think this is a great book for anyone who just wants a plan to help ease them into the keto diet, so they don’t have to experience all the negative effects of dropping hundreds of carbs overnight.

It’s also a great guide for anyone who is looking to follow a clean keto eating plan and wants to make some other healthy lifestyle changes while they’re at it.
